Fall Wedding Tips from a Certified Wedding Planner

Posted by Victoria Pillman on

Fall is a great time to have a wedding, from the cooler temps to beautiful scenery! There are so many ways to take advantage of having a fall wedding, whether it's the color palette or seasonal food, fall weddings are a favorite. As a wedding planner, designer, and coordinator based in Chicago, here are a few things I tell my couples to keep in mind when planning a fall wedding!

1. Weather!! This one is one of the most important. Make sure your venue has indoor and outdoor spaces, you want to have a back-up plan in case it’s needed. Consider heaters in a tent or blankets if you’re set on having an outdoor wedding. Keep umbrellas in case of rain, fall can be very unpredictable. Have extra blankets displayed and up for grabs for your guests.

2. Daylight savings…keep this in mind!! Depending on when/where you’re getting married, this can play a role in your day. Make sure you check the timing if you’re looking for sunset ceremony or photos.

3. Keep yourself and your bridesmaids warm! Consider long sleeve dresses, or the option for a shawl if needed. Thicker fabrics will help with cooler temps as well. You can also opt for capes or faux-fur collars.

4. Embrace the fall colors. Deep and moody colors make the perfect fall palette. Make sure to take advantage of the fall foliage colors as well. Try to plan outdoor activities during hours with the warmest temperatures. An earlier ceremony to ensure the sun is still out to warm up guests will be much appreciated.
